You will be staying in Girton College, Cambridge, one of the 31 colleges of the University. Girton is a beautiful college established in 1869, set amongst 50 acres of parkland and gardens just outside the centre of the historic city of Cambridge, which you will visit many times during the programme.
Participants and leaders will have single bedrooms used by Girton College students in term time. The rooms are located close together in one accommodation wing, with shared bathroom facilities. Bedding and towels will be changed on a weekly basis. Boys and girls will be accommodated separately. It is strictly forbidden for boys to go into girls’ rooms or vice versa.
The meals are fresh, locally sourced English food of a high quality. For breakfast there is a choice of full cooked English breakfast, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, pastries and croissants. For lunch and dinner you can choose daily from a large selection of hot food, including vegetarian options, a soup of the day, fresh sandwiches, paninis and a salad bar. The catering team is experienced in the preparation of meals for those with specific dietary requirements. All meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be provided in the college’s traditional wood panelled dining hall (Great Hall), except when we go out of the college for excursions or activities. Then, either a packed lunch (sandwiches, snacks and drink) will be provided or we will eat together in selected restaurants. All tap water is very safe for drinking, so bring along a water bottle to refill during the day and for excursions.
On one evening during the programme, participants will have the privilege of being served a formal dinner in the Great Hall or Fellows’ Dining Rooms, just like real Cambridge students.
For this, we ask you to dress up in your finest clothes and smart shoes!
